2. General – almost no tracking

On all pages except the News page, no cookies or tracking tools are used at all. Therefore, no cookie banner is required on those pages.

3. Server Log Files

The hosting provider automatically stores server log files (including IP address, date/time, requested page) for a maximum of 7 days – exclusively for security and error analysis purposes.
Legal basis: Art. 6 (1) lit. f GDPR (legitimate interest).

4. YouTube Videos (privacy-enhanced embedding)

We embed YouTube videos on several pages (e.g. News, Technology) using a privacy-friendly method. When you visit a page, only a preview image is loaded from i.ytimg.com – your IP address is transmitted to Google (servers in EU/USA). No cookies are set and no tracking data is collected at this stage.

Only when you actively click the preview image is the actual video loaded via www.youtube-nocookie.com. From that moment on, Google’s privacy policy applies.

5. External content (images and scripts)

On some pages, we embed images from external news sources (e.g., motor1.com, teslarati.com) as well as animation libraries (GSAP). When these resources are loaded, your IP address is transmitted to the respective servers.

Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in an appealing and functional presentation of the content).

We only select reputable sources without tracking functions. No storage of personal data takes place in this process.

6. Google Forms – only on the News page

An optional contact/survey form is available on the News page.

Simply visiting the News page does not transmit any data to Google. Only when you actively click “Load form & agree” is the Google Form loaded, and cookies as well as your IP address are sent to Google Ireland Limited (and possibly Google LLC, USA).

7. Your Rights

You have the right at any time to access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, objection, and data portability (Art. 15–21 GDPR). Just drop me an email.

8. Matomo – privacy-friendly website analytics

This website uses the open-source software Matomo for anonymised statistical analysis of visitor access. Matomo is self-hosted on our own server in Germany. It does not set any cookies and automatically anonymises IP addresses (the last 2 bytes are removed). It is therefore impossible to identify individual persons.

8.1 Disable Matomo upon request (Opt-Out)

→ After opting out, an opt-out cookie will be stored in your browser. If you delete this cookie, Matomo will be reactivated.

Why I do this – and why it’s completely harmless for you

I run this site out of pure passion for autonomous driving – no ads, no sponsors, no paywall. To still see which topics (e.g. Cybercab, safety, the Hesse pilot project) really interest you and where I should write more, I use Matomo – a small, self-hosted open-source analytics tool.

What is recorded?
Only anonymous numbers: which page was visited, roughly from which country/region, which device (PC/phone), and how long someone stayed.

What is NOT recorded?
No names, no e-mail addresses, no exact IP, no mouse movements, no personal data – nothing that could ever identify you.

That’s why you don’t need a cookie banner, and you can use the site exactly as usual – or disable Matomo completely with one click below.
